Integrating climate change adaptation across European Union policies is essential for strengthening Europe's resilience to climate change. Since the 2009 White Paper "Adapting to climate change: Towards a European framework for action" and reinforced by the 2021 EU strategy on adaptation to climate change, the European Union has progressively embedded climate change adaptation into a wide range of policy areas, recognising that climate change adaptation and resilience must be considered across sectors and governance levels. Climate-ADAPT supports this process by providing policy makers, planners and practitioners with the knowledge, tools and practical examples needed to inform the development and implementation of climate change adaptation and resilience policies.

While small and island nations are among the most vulnerable to climate change, they are also among the most important sources of leadership, innovation and inspiration for climate and health action worldwide. Their experiences offer valuable lessons for all countries seeking to build healthier, more resilient and sustainable futures. Building on the Call to action of the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health (PECCH), this event organized by WHO/Europe will bring together leaders and experts from the Pacific, European, Caribbean, and African regions to explore how countries most exposed to climate risks are turning ambition into action. Through lived experiences, national and regional perspectives, the session will examine how health can serve as a powerful entry point for accelerating climate action. The discussion will showcase practical solutions that are protecting populations, strengthening preparedness, reducing vulnerability and supporting sustainable development. It will also explore opportunities to scale impact through stronger partnerships and cross-regional collaboration.
The 17th Climate-ADAPT webinar will explore how European and national initiatives are advancing climate adaptation from planning to implementation. It will present the Irish EU Council Presidency's priorities on adaptation and resilience, the European Framework for Climate Resilience, Ireland’s Climate Ireland platform and Adaptation Network (CIAN) as examples of evidence-based adaptation and stakeholder collaboration. The webinar will also introduce the updated Climate-ADAPT platform and its evolving role as the European knowledge hub supporting policymakers and practitioners with accessible scientific evidence, practical tools and case studies to implement adaptation measures and advance climate resilience.
